January 10, 2001 Meeting
Rotary met Wednesday morning at the usual
time and place. Those in attendance were Bud Noble, Jane Bush, Morris
Christensen, Max Maserang, Bruce Hollinger, Pat Justet, Rik Eide, Larry
Moses, Keven Green, Chris Green, Glen Hardy, and Dave Cook.
Rik Eide gave a talk about the proposed
BMX track in Logandale. He reported that Max Maserang has volunteered
to help fill a large hole on one piece of property by the fire station,
making it suitable for a track. However, he is currently negotiating
to "trade" the alloted piece for a like-sized one in the parking lot of
the fairgrounds. He pointed out the many advantages to having the
other lot which included several safety items. It was concluded that
the club would send a letter to the fair board and to James Robison showing
our support for the track and for the alternate location.
Max Maserang reported on the proposed roping
project. He pointed out the various options regarding the size of
the event, the number and types of prized, the location, entry fees, etc.
It was decided that we should hold a 1-day event for our first try at this
promising ways-and-means project. It was also decided that we should
rent the arena at the fairgrounds instead of exposing Max to all of the
liability issues that are involved should we hold it at his arena.
Max volunteered to have his company, M&M Construction, sponsor one
saddle for a prize if the club would also sponsor one. He estimated
the cost at approximately $500 each. Other donations were promised
by other members. A date was set for February 24th. Max will
report back at our next meeting.
Next weeks speaker will be Sue Baker from
the Clark County satellite office. Please try to attend. You
are missed.
NEXT MEETING: Wednesday, January
17th, at 6:30 AM.....Moapa Valley Credit Union Annex.
