Release (Moapa Valley Progress):
Moapa Valley Rotary Club Sponsors Boy
Scout Troop 118
The Moapa Valley Chapter of Rotary International
has accepted responsibility as the charter organization for the Boy Scout
Troop 118, Anaszi District, Boulder Dam Area Council. The agreement requires
active participation by both the chartering organization and the troop.
In part, the chartering organization must
conduct the Scouting Program according to its own policies and guidelines
as well as those of the Boy Scouts. In addition, Rotary actively
participates in the Scouting organization, serves on the unit committee
to screen and select unit leaders, and ensures adequate facilities for
the Scouting units. The Boy Scout council must support the aims and objectives
of the Rotary Chapter to include offering Scouting resources to achieve
those objectives, provide training and program resources to the Rotary
and Scout units, and provide guidance for selecting quality scout leaders.
Kevin Green, Scoutmaster for Troop 118,
sees this joining of Rotary and Boy Scouts as a very positive step for
the Troop. "The Boy Scouts are actively involved in the local community.
Rotary's involvement and commitment to the community and its youth provides
the Scouts with a great opportunity to expand its community service."
Bud Noble, Moapa Valley Rotary President
also believes that Rotary not only helps the Boy Scouts, but enhances and
expands its community service to the youth of the valley. "The Boy
Scouts is a natural fit into our existing youth programs here in the local
chapter. I believe that our participation with Troop 118 enhances the ability
of both organizations to perform community service in the Moapa Valley."
The Rotary Club already is actively involved with the community youth through
its middle and high school programs and its scholarship programs.
